| Reporter: Dick CountsAUGUST Report
As I remember we had 60 present at the last
meeting. Thanks to all that make the effort to
make this the best bee club in Texas. As Joe
states in his letter, Gloria Harmon and
Stanford Brantley made a excellent report on the Summer Clinic, In Pearsall this past
month. You really missed seeing a really neat
honey house, the Youngblood Honey Co. is now in its third generation of operation. Have just
heard from Chad Wootton, our A&M fundraising contact. Site planning and building plans
are still underway. Swarm calls are still coming in. Also yellow jackets, which is a little early, which
means we can expect many, many calls before first frost.
Also have had more calls about bees in trees than I can remember. Seems as if the wet weather has increased the
number of bees raised in the wild. Most of the
nest I have worked had a little to no honey in them. Removed
one this week hanging under the eaves, 7 large combs, lots of brood, very little honey. Three of us extracted last weekend and I will
extract one more time. I you have honey that
you would like to extract see me at this meeting. |
| President's Letter Well
folks, I sure hope you haven't wore out your lawn mowers cutting all the grass from the
mass amounts of rain we've been getting. It sure is a blessing to get so much green all
the year long. This is supposed to be the wax melting time of year and there are two pans
of comb that needs to be melted down, however there is sure to be some more summer
left to get all the melting done, so I'm not a whole lot worried about that. Once again we
had a nice meeting last month with Gloria Harmon and Stanford Brantley telling us what the
learned at the clinic they attended. Also Mr. Dick Counts was there and spoke of that and
many other important subjects along with some good advice on requeening. He also did his
usual good job at the auction. He also mentioned that there was to be some
extracting to be going on at his place. |
| You are invited too write about your beekeeping experiences for
publication in this newsletter. Please keep it to around 300 words. Ill make it fit.
If more than one entry, first in first out. Next entry will be published next month. I
really need your help in this matter. THANKS I have a letter from a beekeeper
in New Mexico that would like some one to train and take over his 1000 hive bee operation.
Maybe someone reading this letter will know someone that may be interested. If so
let me know. |
